Covid-19: How to Boost your Immune System with Proper Hydration

The constant journey to keeping your body properly hydrated is key at times like these where the Covid-19 virus spread is real and our need for a well-functioning immune system is very important. It only makes sense, especially now, to stay as healthy and prepared as possible.

One important thing to understand is the body’s natural defenses and how you can protect yourself. People are always asking “Where do I start?” This may sound silly – but the place you want to start is with proper hydration. If you are not getting enough water and healthy fluids than every other system in your body is affected. Your body systems will literally become sluggish if you are neglecting this simple foundation.

Thankfully, there are lots of smart ways you can boost your immune system and stay healthy. I’ve put together a list of products and foods you could use when trying to fight this virus and staying healthy.

Amongst the many things you could do to avoid getting sick and preventing from getting the new Covid-19 Virus, staying Hydrated should be the #1 step towards a healthier diet and plan of action when approaching the situation.

What is Hydration?

If we look into the dictionary definition for the term hydration, it means “The process of causing something to absorb water,” or “The act or process of the introduction of additional fluid into the body.” But to better answer that question we first should talk about dehydration. When our body is in a state of not having enough water for it to function optimally, with symptoms like muscle cramps, confusion, rapid pulse, and headaches, that means that we are probably DEHYDRATED. Some people like myself are trained to know when dehydration is becoming an issue in their bodies.

So there’s a few different ways you can hydrate or rehydrate your body. The easiest and most famous one is the classic and simple way of drinking water. You might it’s funny I had to mention that but most people get caught up on the simple act of drinking enough water every day and end up suffering from dehydration symptoms.

Consumable other liquids provide water to help with hydration too. These would include drinks like coffee, tea, lemonade, soda, etc. But be careful: A moderate amount of caffeine should be good and is not harmful for most people. However, I’d advise you to limit your daily intake of caffeinated drinks. Caffeine may cause some people to urinate more frequently, or feel anxious or jittery. One thing I’d definitely be very careful and try to avoid would be Energy drinks. They usually tend to contain large amounts of caffeine and ingredients that overstimulate you (guarana, ginseng, or taurine), which are things your body doesn’t actually need. Not to mention that most of these drinks are also high in added sugar. If you haven’t yet, you should check this article where I talk a little more in depth about the problems with high added sugar diets and benefits of a low sugar diet.

Even the foods that we eat contain some amount of water. Water can also be found in fruits and vegetables (for example, watermelon, cucumbers, tomatoes, and lettuce), and in soup broths, and some foods contain more water than others. So, eating clean and healthy is another way to properly stay hydrated.

If you are trying to fix your immune system, avoid getting sick, and boost your defenses, then make water/low calorie drinks your new best friends. If you get tired of plain water you could try water with slices of orange and lemon (would get a boost of natural Vitamin C too). Dehydration leads to a ton of health problems and weakens your immune system. In the off-chance you do get sick, staying hydrated is absolutely vital for recovery.

Hopefully I was able to show you enough to persuade you on making sure you stay hydrated and drink more water/sports drinks to make sure your liquid and electrolyte are always at optimum levels and helping you to protect your immune system especially at times like this. We should always remember that vitamin and minerals — particularly A, C and E, as well as zinc — play an important role in keeping the immune system strong and staying healthy.Staying at home at this time is very important as well as keeping a good and balanced diet. Filling each plate with produce, lean meats, dairy and healthy fats, will help us to get what we need to help keep our immune system strong.

Our body also needs fluids and electrolytes to function at its best. That’s especially true when you’re suffering symptoms like fever, coughing, diarrhea and vomiting, which can easily dehydrate you. Proper rehydration helps with recovery. Drinks with essential electrolytes such as Hydra-Guard Sports Drink have been recommended by the World Health Organization and the American Academy of Pediatrics for decades to relieve symptoms associated with virus-related mild to moderate dehydration in both adults and kids. Hydra-Guard Sports Drink is a great way of replenishing your essential electrolytes after a workout but keeping the calorie count low and consuming only 5g of natural sugars per bottle. You could use the code JOAO10 for a special Discount on their website, and I also recommend you to subscribe to their newsletter because they are always releasing special codes for even higher discounts on their products.
